.The case of the old age pensioner,, who, was, ! alleged to ■ have giv.einhis' pension 'ceriificate' as security for money advanced ..ivas; again before; the Benevolent Trustee's yesterday'afternoon. ; The subject, was introduced by ; a' letter from . the !Commissioner' 1 of : (51d . 'Age Pensions, and it is likely that:this will 'be' the last heard of the: matter. In'the letter the . commissioner- said:—"Since writing to you on the 13th. instant, ■ I have received from a' gentleman who had dealings with the pensioner a full account in writing- of , the transaction, which is satisfactory to the .Department • and effectively disposes "of- the statements made as to the charging of, usurious'interest This ends the matteiy asv far as the Department is concerned, and the current month's instalment is now avail? able - for collection at tho' Wellington, paying' office. In conclusion, I respectfully beg to' submit that, if in the future statements are made traversing the administration of, this Department, it would be wiser if the De-. I partment were consulted as to the, matter before particulars are given to the press.",. The Trustees made no comment on the -tdr/ since they of opinion it contained nothing of which they had not been aware at . the '- previous meeting when the subject was discussed;. "
