Cabled advice received by the local agents of the Shaw, Savill, and Albion Company's steamer Waiwera reports that she left.Monte Video last Friday in' continuation of her voyage to London. She left Wellington on December 31. lONIC DUE TO-DAY. About noon to-day. the Shaw-Savill liner lonic is due in port from London, via Capetown and Hobart. She has on board a. large number of passengers for Dominion ports. , At ten o'clock last night the Union Company's Bteamer' Koonya wag expected to leave Timaru for Wellington direct. '.'' SCALES LINE OF STEAMEES. Last week the Clan Sutherland left Lyttelton for London laden with 8260 bales of wool. The Clan Macaulay left Lyttelton on Saturday for London, via. Australia, and had on board 6624 baleß of wool. Tho next steamer under charter to Mr. G., H. Scales to load wool in New Zealand for London: will be tho Clan MacLaren, now en route from Port Pirio to Sydney. She is due in' Wellington early next month. ' CORNWALL'S PROGRAMME. The New Zealand and African Shipping Company advise that the F.H.S. Line steamer Cornwall's loading arrangements are as follow:— She leaves Dunedin for Waitara and Wellington. From hero she sails on February 13 for Picton, Timaru, arid Lyttelton, whence she sails finally for Bristol on February 20. .-■" INTERCOLONIAL SERVICE. , ■ THE MOKOIA DELAYED. . As the. Union Company's, steamer Mokoia has to undergo repairs to her rudder at Sydney, she will not leave there to-day in her ordinary run, the Warrimoo being fixed to replace her. In the Warrimoo's time-table running the Mokoia will leave Sydney next Saturday for Wellington direct. The two vessels resume their respective runs at Dunedin next week. i ' ",■ . TYSEE LINE OF STEAMERS.; .■ " " It is expected tha\ the Tyser Lino steamer Star of Australia will\completo discharge of the Wellington portion of her New York cargo tomorrow, arid will leave for Lyttelton at noon. , Tho steamers Tomoana and the Norehana, from London, via Australia and northern ports, are now expected to arrive here on February. 4 and 5 respectively. They both complete' dis-. chargo at Wellington, and go on the Homeward loading berth. ' . . ARAHURA OUTSIDE WESTPORT. When other vossels are delayed, . the Union Company's West Coast trader Arahura usually manages to negotiate the 'difficult bars on that coast. But there seem to be exceptions to every rule. Tho Union Company ' has received advico that tho Arahura was unable to enter Westport yesterday on account of the bar being bad, and that there was littlo prospect of her crossing inwards last night. ■ ' ■ THE HAWEA AN OBSTRUCTION. At the meeting of the Grey Harbour Board on January 20 a letter was received from the Union Company as follows:—"I regret to inform you that our efforts to, remove the wreck of the Hawea.intact have proved a failure, and she is now in such a sunken condition that she cannot be'floated again. As the last heavy sea shifted the wreck further up the tip-head we would ask that wo bo porniitted to leave same:as it .stands now, unless your board can suggest any further operations, should you decide the wreck is. still an obstruction to the navigable channel. I'shall be pleased to learn yoiir. yiews<as -early' as possible, as the expeuse of keeping the tug. here is very heavy, and wo have also a. largo number of men in attendance." The chairman of the board said ho understood that it was the intention, of the company to dismantle the steamer and then break all the ribs, in His opinion, the hull would then gradually fill up. Captain' Connor being cailed in said that, the Hawea had been an obstruction to tho port. The ohairman asked if she was smashed up thoroughly would he be satisfied at her remaining in the same position. Captain Connor said ho would not' like to see a bundle made. Tho boat, was an obstruction as she lay.' It was decided to inform the. Union Company that the Hawea was an obstruction, and they must act accordingly. The engineer was instructed, to furnish tho board with an opinion in regard to the Hawea's position by Friday evening. To-night the Government 6teamer Tiitanekai Is expected to leave Wellington on her periodical visit. ,of the Cook Strait lighthouses. Mr. Carrick left by the Takapuna, last night for Auckland, where ho is to join the Atua at. third officer. To-day the "Union Company's steamer Kaituna is expected to leave Wellington for Lyttelton, arid the steamers Manapouri and Kamona are fixed to leave for Wcstport. On board tho Union Company's steamer Maheno, which loft Sydney on Saturday.for Wellington direct,, are 110. saloon and 128 'steerage passengers for Dominion ports. It is reported that Captain Norbury, of the Northern Steamship Company's b.s. Earawa, who has been incapacitated for some time by ■illhealth, hopes to resume his duties in the'course of two or three weeks.
