Company provides ; tho local press with, the following report:— '-•-- ■ ''~ The report for last week is somewhat meagre, although all indications aro fully as'.good, as .ever. No. 1 Iras been quietly running, oil; iuixed with water for some time past, and 52 barrels w ; ere filled from the tank ■ there last week. There may be a few more: barrels left in it; and; if clean, tjiis will ba casked up. If not; the residue -will .'be emptied, into an earth: tank, and used as fuel later on, as. it is : proposed to obtain. oil burners as '.soon as possible. The big tank will then. be taken to No:' 2, and a,smaller one. put at No, .X. At No. 2 some of ..the tools were lost on January 13, and were not recoverd until the night of January 22, so during this time onlycask-. ins and storing, oil, fn addition to making!, suitable tools and fishing for those lost, was; done.' On Saturday morning, When drilling was to be resumed, oil was right up to the top of the casing, and when the sand pump wn3 put in oil overflowed.. It.is proposed before long to put a second shift on this bore so as to getdown to the anticipated big seam as'soon as possible. 1 .Work at No. 3. is going steadily forward. Nearly all the casing is in, and will be tested to see if tho water is shut off before, long. If this, is so, it will probably bo left for a while, and the full strength put on No. 2.-Small orders for oil /are being received and executed from time to time, The Railway Department"had another fiye barrels sent, to Petone on January 12 for experimenting purposes, : probably. gas-making, as they', will not try it on locomotives until such time-as they' are assured of "permanent supplies,, which, 1 it w . hoped, will not.be long. . ■■- .-.■';•'-.:.
