Ido not expect to see. many crews representing the local clubs at Mercor. The distance and consequent expense of transport is bound to have. its ■- effect, and from what I can gather, the only crews likely ■to be present are the Wellington R.C.'s double scullers, Gaudin and M'Kinley. and the Star B.C. senior four. I have not heard what the Petone Club intends doing, but expect that its crews will confine their atten-. tiohs to the less remote regattas. The detailed programme of the Wanganui Regatta on February 25 is to hand, and appears below. It will be seen that the prize list amounts to £106, and, while the allotment to each' race does not'appear to be much, examination will'show' thatieach.' class' lias been well catered for. The.maidens and light-weights have £13 each to..struggle for, and the juniors £27, .so that crews journeying to Wanganui will have_ ample opportunity .of paying .their way—if the. Fates' are kind aud the other.crews not too fast. The list of events■ is;— Maiden Fours,-one' milo, £7,' £2; Maiden Sculls, one mile, £3, £1; Senior Fours,- two miles, £15, £3; Junior Fours, one mile and a half, £8, £2; Senior Sculls, one mile and a hah\.£s,£l: Youths' Fours, ona 'mile, £6, £1; Light-weight Maiden Double Sculls, one mile, £5, £1; Senior Fours, one mile and, a half, £12, £3; Junior Sculls, one mile, £4, £1; Junior Fours, one mile and a half, £10, £2; Senior Double Sculls, one mile and a half, £6, £1; Light-weight - Maidon Fours, one mile, ■ £6, £1;- .■■':.'■. '..'-.' , ■ Arrangements are now well in hand for tho Wellington Regatta on February 6. The proposal mentioned in this column last week .to include a 10-stone'maiden four race on the programme was disoussed at the last meeting of the association, and finally dropped, chiefly on the ground of shortness of notice for out-, side clubs, v I understand that Pictdn is making a full entry, and that, Blenheim willalso bo present iff force, while the Wanganui clubs (especially the Union R'.C. under th« leadership : «f our old friend "Wally" SharpoV are also planning a raid on.thoregatta fund. The Star Club's representatives are appended, and are: — Maiden Fours, J, B. 'Davis (stroke), Turner (3), Laurence (2), : Lambert (bow); Senior Fours, R. M. Brewer (stroke), E. C. Little (3), L. A. Marchant (2), J. Kerslake; Junior Clinker Fours (2 crews) (1) F, S, Turnbull (stroke), W. H. Brewer, H. S. Barron, E. Johnston; (2) Roy Brewer (stroke), E. Hacon, P. A. M. Thomson; Senior Double Sculls, A, T. Benaall (stroke), 0..8. Bridge (bow); "Maidori Double Sculls, L. A. Marchant (stroke), W. Robertson (bow); Youths' Fours, H. D. Bridge (stroke), Ben-, nott, A. Lawson,* Wilkinson; Maiden Pairs, Turner (bow), Laurence (stroke); Senior Pairs, R. M. Brewer (stroke), E..C. Little' (bow); Junior Fojrs (besWud-best), 2 crews—(l) F. S.Turnbull (stroke), Wi H. Brewer, H. S. Barron, E. Johnston; (2) Roy Brewer (stroke), E. Hacon, L. A, -Marchant, J.KorsInko. The maiden dotiblcrßcullers will probably bo altered and another colleague found for Robertson.' ,
The. boisterous weather prevailing lat-ely has. interfered with my intention of giving .jorae criticisms this week of the- various regatta crows of tho local clubs, as tho opportunities -of seeing the men '■ in action' hav« been •so scant./If tho wpather permits of any rowing during the coming week (surely it must aftci- tiro bad spell wo nave had lately) eome remarks on the different crews will appear next. Saturday. ' ■ The Star Glub's swiiriming sports postponed from last Saturday are now fixed for February 13. Tho Senior and Junior Sculls of the club ai'o scheduled for Saturday next, and there is a gratifying increase in the number of entries this time compared with the small fields that. have, competed in these ovoiitt, which should bo tho most popular on tho'list, for tho last fow'abasom.v,'
