AVe also had races, for boats of from 1 ton up to 30 tons. 1 These boat races were sailing matches; we'also had a special race for .whalebojits.' : At that, time there wero several whaling stations .pa, the coast of the North and the Soutblslauds; there was pno at Waikaha'e,. several oh Cook Strait on the Middle Island._ and all those whalers, would come .into Wellington for Anniversary Day. . Wo also had a visit very, frequently: of English, French, and American .whaling ships; they generally came into Port Nicholson, the name' of the Wellington Harbour in those days, for the Anniversary; wo alivays had a special race for the .boats helonging to those whaling ships. I do-not think-if would bo a bad idea to have, the old gun removed (by special permission), from its present position to the Museum, as it is certainly a relic of olden times. -■■ It .would give the people of .the present time some idea of tho guns that were used about 60 years ago.- 2 !,am, etc.', ..-.'.•: ' .
