NEW ZEALAND TOURNAMENT. IBY fELKOBAFH—PIIESS AS'^JCIATIO , <• 1 Chrlstchurch, January 20. For the third day -of the Now Zealand tournament tho weather remained gloriously fane, and the morning was a splendid one for bowlers A bright day with a browning sun'a heat, tempered by a brisk easterly breeze, made playing a pleasure. The greens, under the twin driving influences, were keener than they were yesterday, and played well, though here and there were signs of th« wear and tear that forms a tournament's "wake" The seventh round of the rinks tournament was concluded at seven o'clock in tho morning, and the sertion ties were played off on the Canterbury green. Later, at 12 30, tho doubles tournament was commenced on seven greens, Sunnyside and Opawa being used in addition to tho five city greens to provide space for the nine sections into which the competing pairs are divided. Section winners and ties were as follow. — Section 1 —Clinton (Nelson) with six wins won tho section Section 2—United (Stark) with six wina won tho section Section 3 —Chrlstchurch (Macdougall) won the section with si\ wins and one loss. Section 4 —Wellington (Ballinger) with six wins.won. Section 5 —Kaituna (Sanders) beat Dunedm (M'Larcn) by 20 to 14, winning five; games and losing two Section 6 —Gore (Ingram) won the sectioa ' with six wins and one loss Section 7 —Greenmeadows (Crowley) with six games won Section 8 —Victoria (Barry) won all seven games; Section 9 —In the plav-off of the tie, Caledonian (Keast) 23 beat Kaituna (Payne) 18, and won the section Each rink having won six section games the winners of the nine sections will compete m the final games of the rink championship In order to make an even draw, beven byes wore given in the first round, and the winners of the remaining two sections were selected by ballot to play off in the other game Tho result was,that United (Stark) beit Wellington (Ballinger) by 25 to 15. The following will represent the South Island in the inter-association match against the North liland, which will be' commenced to-morrow at 2 30 or. the United green:— Kaituna —Payne, Smith, Scott Jacobsen. Three games of the doubles chimpionship were played to-day, and this event will be continued to-morrow. t The North v. South Island match, which was to have been played to-morrow, has been abandoned on account of wan,t of time. I MEETING OF THE .COUNCIL.' A meeting of tbo Council of the New Zea» land Bowling Association was held to-night. A report was read by Mr Waddell upon the proposal that a team of South Island bowlers should tour the North Island, recommending that the proposal should be given effect to. tho tour to commence on February 27, and to take in Wanganui, Palmerston Nor,tli, Auckland, Rotorua, Napier, Masterton, and Wellington It was stated that the Auckland Centre had ananged a week's pro- , gramme for that city Mr. Waddell suggested that the association should take over the management of tho tour, and write to the clubs to nominate players for inclusion in the ' team Tho report was adopted, and a subcommittee was appointed to draw up a circular for distribution to the various clubs The question of abolishing the time-limit in tournament matches was also discussed, and it was decided to givo the matter serious consideration before tho next tournament. WELLINGTON CLUB. The members of the Wellington Bowling Club will be asked to consider an alteration in the rules at a meeting to be held on February 1. The alteration is —"That the following article shall be inserted after Article 30, namely 30A Twenty-one days' notice to the members, specifying the place, day, and hour of the annual general meeting, shall be given by notice sent by post to the registered addresses of members, or in such other manner as may be deoided by tho company at a general meeting." A confiimatoiy meeting will be held on February 17 At the conclusion of the > meeting to be held on February 1 another meeting will bo held to consider a letter received from the secretary of the Northern Bowling Association, which deah with the annual tournament, entertainment expenses, and suggestions regarding tournaments in geneial.
