Prior to the commencement of tho business nffthe Lyttelton Harbour Board this morning, the chairman (Mr. Geo. Laurenson, M.P.) said ho , desired to express, to the Hon. D. Buddo, on the part of. the members «f, to ,the board and himself, thejr hearty congratulations on tho high honour . which had Dfen done to him. Ho. felt sure that as a member of the Government the Hon. Mr. Biiddo would refieofc credit upon the position, And he wgarded is as r a high honour that they should have amongst them as n member one of the Ministers of the Crown. Ho desired once more to tender Mr. Buddo, on behalf of the board and himself, their best wishes for his welfare. *Tho Ho'n, D. Buddo said ho most heartily thanked the chairman and the members of the board for the kindly reference which had been made to himself. There was no doubt tha.t things had been dotfo by them nliiiih ought not to have been done, but thU was even also r the enso as', regarded Cabinet Ministers. He sincerely hoped that hi' would be ablo to fulfil all the high hopes whjch his friends predicted for him. However, they might be euro tint he would do his best to advance the prosperity of the Dominion, and he hoped in the future that tbeir prospects would be as successful as they could wish. He once moro thanked them for their kindly refeiences, and hoped to be able to deserve them.
