THE DUPPA STREET GROUND.
. ; WORK ADVAXCIXG FAST. , ■ Remarkable progress has been made with tho work • of. forming iho Duppa Street recreation ground. , Of tho two playing fields, forward/that it will probably; be;ready for uso when the; football and hockey, sMson: commences. The turf is firm, and has, the look of a green which has undergone much''longer 'preparation. On the upper field'things also'seem; bright, and, except for one or two patches, the turf is good. These /patches,' which are due to unovenness in the distribution ,of . the'peat in the topsoil, are being attended to; but it is doubtful whether the job inH 'be finished early enough to permit of the ground being played .on this winter. ,; .Tho decoration of the grounds is proceeding- slowly. - Pines,' which' were planted on- the' south end, have not prospered very .well, a large number having died.; Rows of shrubs, however, which top the neat green banks, are thriving splendidly, and, when a | little more advanced, will form an effective border. .■■■•• : ■
