When Mr. T. W. KirW, Government bio. logist, was on his last trip\to. Auckland he was; specially ;• struck - with the. way in which, grasses and • clovers are spreading on portions of the; country covered by-the mud thrown out at-the time of'.the Tarawera eruption. The present- growth,- Mr. .Kirk understands, started from a few individual seeds, thrown out,by the. guides. - Therp; is now a very considerable area "of really ; gobd pasture, 'consisting of grass' and : white, and red clover. Water for. stock is; the;.only thing lacking to make "a large part of thf district useful grazing territory... ? .';'.: V -.' •
