MATCHES AT TRENTHAM
"FISHTAILS AND CORKSCREWS."
Fishtails and corkscrews were served hot to the riflemen who ventured out to the range at Trentham on Saturday. Although almost every other sport had been declared "off" on account of the fickleness of the weather, 278 shooting men mustered fer the -week-end matches, and got as much enjoyment out of the afternoon's sport" as the southerly would let them. Ketone rifle 6lub. - / •The Petone Eiflo Club continued its competitions for the championship shield, Mr. W; G. Graco's trophy, and for trophies presented by Messrs. W. H. Ballinger, Myers and Co., G. A. Chapman, for A Class, and for B Class by Messrs. W. H. Ballinger, F. Jenness, and C. Hollard. Owing to. the heavy southerly wind good shooting was out, of the question, but nevertheless> one,exception (J. Carter) at least, "found the spot'.". He' put on the really good score of 47 at 500, and followed it up with tho fair score (considering tho weather) of 38i Tho conditions were: ten shots at 500 and 600 yards, ■hnd the scores were as, follow:— . ■ ."
