KINEMATOGRAPHY,

SOME DOMINION FILMS. (DY.TBLEGBAPJI.—SI'ECIAI. nOHKK3I"JNDENT.) .. i Chrlstchurah, January 17. ': ' Mr.' L.;Sutto, representing Pathe, Freres, thellargo Parisian firm which manufactures kineniatograph pictures, was in Christchurch yesterday, having .just' completed arrangements with the Tourist Department in Wei-.-lihgton, to take films of New Zealand. They will probably represent Maori life, natural scenery, the geysers, the hot, springs, the. butter and cheese, frozen meat, woollen, timber, flax, kaiiri,. gum, and other industries. Tlie programme has not been definitely decided upon, but those are the, lines that, have been suggested. A good deal depends upon the" way in which the, pictures appear after they are taken.' If it is seen that the woollen industry, for instance, cannot be'kinematographed very well, it will have to be omitted from the list, but '-Mr: Sutto will enter into the work with an unprejudiced mind, and with a determination to make interesting films if possible. He will leave New Zealand soon, but he will re.turn again with his apparatus, and will then give up all his time aud-att to kinematograpbirig. the Dominion'to the best advantage. The New Zealand films, which (says the "Times") .will measure several thousand feet in length, will be developed in tlie Dominion.. This is necessary, as,, if ..one set of pictures is not satisfactory, .', the photographing has to be done over again perhaps five :or six times. The developed films will then he sent to Paris, where they will bo included in. programmes offered to tho managers of entertainments. '
