MEETING OF WELLINGTON CENTRE. At the meeting of tho: -Wellington Centre of,, the ,'N.Z.A.A.A. held last night -there wore present: Messrs. J. H. Pollock, (in'the chair). W. Coffey, J. M.- Hogben, S. Robinson, A. Davies, M; Burnett,. A. Teutenberg,' M. Mulcahy, L. Salek, B. A. Guiso, F. M'Gee,-, and S. Bridge. "! Tho treasurer (Jlr. Davies) reported that at the'.reoent: championship, meeting tho receipts amounted-to about £109 and the expenditure to about £49, leaving' a credit balance of £60. • .-I- : ! Messrs'.;,Cartwright and Langridgo , applied for ' reinstatement, and their applications were-referred-'to the council.Messrs, Hogben and Guise were instructed to . obtain '..particulars.-..0f, a club at . Napier with, a view of' securing-, its'affiliation.; ... .* Formal advice was-received of the appointment of Mr. W. G. Talbot as secretary of tho new council of the N.Z.A.A.A. A sub-committee consisting ' of Messrs. Davies,, G.uise, and .'.Burnett . was set up to secure . .designs., and rbjiort upon' the matter of a. :v uniform medal lor the 'championship. meeting. V.^ . Mr. xollbck ;made, ; ab statement in regard to the athletic split.' Ha.said that, the; time, had arrived when, steps should be taken to controvert a-.\_misstatement, regarding; . the! trouble.] /.The real' position was, he '.said, that /the..' president of the . late A.A;A. Council -adopted ■ an. unconstitutional. , attitude. ■ in connection with tho..election of ;a council, to administer the.' ; :affairs 'of the association for 1908-9.-' -; Certain nominations which were' in accordance with.-: the'-, rules and, which, were' .forwarded! by. .the.: Wellington and Otago centreswere; refused, and tho late council mado no attempt to demonstrate lo .the. cen-, tres.that-tho action of their;president and !the .returning; officer,was, .'constitutional, or in accord with,' the- 'rules. Tho Otago and Wellington, centres each; made; applications to i the. ( council.-for,..an-, explanation .'of; the', procedure,.but..were vouchsafed nothing more, 'than'the;, reply,' "Mr. Atack rules! that, the, nominations sent in by Otago and Wellington oannot 'be received, and. that ends matters!" Naturally the > centres were aggrieved, and when it was discovered that an appeal 'could be made',to the A.A. Union of Australasia, such was drawn up, and the late council, at Christ'cliurch' v waV requested to send it,.on, and allow their 'president and returning officer's actions to bo reviewed by an impartial, executive. . At. a, meeting,! of the. council , . this •' course .'was- defeated by the casting vote,of the.' president (Mr. Atack), A cry was raised that tho Wellington Centre wished to ' remove" the headquarters of the council from ; Christchurch to the' Empire ! City,, ithougk.it-.was,',known! that headquarters' could, only be'shifted by a vote of' the centres, and that the question of headquarters had 'not been touched upon by the centres whose, nominations were rejected by the returning officer.' It was also'known that the object of the .centres was to elect an entirely, now executive in place of a body of :irien .:..who.'had, by:- their actions, forfeited the confidence of three centres composed of delegates", representing thirty-seven - out of fifty amateur athletic clubs. The qliestion of headquarters'was! not involved in, any way. : This was briefly a resume of the circumstances that' led up to the ' conference of. cqntros, which was held at Christchurch on Decombor I's. and ...at;!which the ; representatives of thirty-seven: clubs- were present. Tho delegates realised that ■ as an election had been denied them, thero was,no council In existence,'the ono nominated by Mr. Atack and the returning officer, Mr, Aitkin, being properly .ignored. Mr, Polloclvjfurther stated that the gentlemen composing tho'council woro nominated eololy by Otagg and South-' land delogatosj no Wellington delegate even made suggestions with reference to the per- . sonnel of'tho now executive, whom ho charaotarised aa 'a , body of Influential citizens, under whoso control the pmateur athletio afc' fairs of -the Dominion should progress, . In regard to the Auckland Centre, Mr, Pollock stated that he regretted that that body had not been represented at the recent eon= forenoo. He was glad tq hear 'that the pentr§ wns. now taking a, Jlyeiler interest in tho affairs,. and lie hoped that in future the Wei, lington . and Awiklanil centres- would ce. oporato for the good pf the sport, The have been selected by the W.A.A.O, to go (nto training for tha forthcoming .'Now Zealand ohampionslilp meeting, to be hold in February next !— Sprints,'—Hondorson, Woodger, Stubbs, Wilton, Qoodbohoro, Pollock, Cunningham,!
