A special committeo has been appointed by the Oroua Lodge of Druids in connection with the entertainment of Grand Lodgo officials and delegates at Palmerston noxt month. ■ The committee has decided to iuvito the visitors to a smoke concert and reception. The Mayor will be asked to receive the visitors at the latter function. At a meeting of tho Hospital Board held yesterday intimation was received from the Treasury that subsidies totalling £1367 10s. had been remitted to the credit of the board. Dr. Valintine, ,'of the Health Department, also wrote asking that the board's architect prepare fresh plans of-proposed cell for delirium tremens patients. ■ The board decided to reply that they considered that tho plans met their requirements.- Leave of absence was granted to chairman, Mr. J. G. Wilson, who was thrown from a horse on Tuesday and sustained a sprained ankle'. '■ Intimation has been received that Nurses M. Davies and M. Jamieson, of the Palmerston North Hospital', staff,: have passed the final nurses' State examination. At a. meeting of the Manawatu County Council, held on Wednesday, Councillor I M'Kenzie mentioned that the' butter from the Rongotea and Glenbroua dairy factories ; was beiiig carted to Longburn, a distance of some seven miles. If some ' arrangement could be come to with the directors of these ■ factories whereby it could be /taken over the tramline it would only be necessary to cart it about 3i miles to the train, whence it would be taken to Oroua Bridge and placed on the train.
