WSTPORT MURDER CASE.
STATEMENT BY HON. DR. FYINDLAY, - : The Minister for Justice (Hon. Dr.> Find- ■ lay) told a Dominion reporter: yesterday that the trial of Connolly for: perjury, arising out . of tho Westport murder case, and sot down f for January 21j would have been held earlier, • but .it had been necessary to'.allow, time-for •; ;the .preparation of the case. In reference to ... the demand of some of tho West. Coast newspapers for• a full inquiry, .apart from: the judicial proceedings, the Minister said'he 6aw , no necessity for such a course being taken. The charges against Hallinen and-Andersen, had been heard in the lower and; higher Courts, thoy had been defended by counsel, and ho. knew no charge - that had been laid'-' against ."tlio administration of'justice in the'matter; < ; He;thought: it was admitted' . .that..they had had a fair trial.
