On Thursday evening, ; at Cust,.- a . heavythunderstorm came up witli; heavy rain, .and hail, which lasted till afte;\j^n.o'clook Su :At', West 'Eyrbton, a ■ thunderbolt "fell within, ;two chains of ,the' railway station, close to the Kaiapoi-Bennetts train. Before' reaching' the ground it burst with a loud report, and spread a shower of coloured sparks, some of which set'firo to a.gorse fence. Although it was raining heavily at the time the spectaclo was most impressive; The shock:.of the bursting shook the. buildings all round, Tho fireman on the engine was stunned, and the: passengers greatly alarmed. No v damage was done to the train
