' . : ' FIGHT ON BARQUE HELGA: A light on the barque Helga resulted in a. youthful seaman named Robert William Adams appearing on a charge of unlawfully assaulting another seaman named Peter M'Laughlan on January 4. M'Laughlan stated 'that Adams went on board for a bag belonging to another man, and when it was; refused got into an argument with the watchman, and subsequently struck informant in the face. Defendant admitted that ho went on board the Helga for a mate's bag. M'Laughlan said the bag must not be removed, and hit witness. Defendant said he could not stand this, arid took the law into his own hands and "waded into" M'Laughlan - His Worship said it was doubtful who had, struck the first blow, but on defendant's admission ho had assaulted informant. The assault was riot a serious one.. Defendant would! bs convicted arid fined 10s,, with the alternative of 48 hours ia gaol.
