MISSIONS TO SEAMEN.
The Seamen's Institute was crowded last night, when a concert! was given by Mr. : S. Hislop. Mr. J. Moore (missioner) occupied! the chair. The following contributed items:— Songs by Miss Van Staveren. and. by Messrs. J. H. Johnston, I'earn, Alec Newton, Twiss, L. Johnston, James Dykes, and H. S. Hislop.' Recitations by Miss Van ' Staveren and Mr. Alec Newton; pianists, Mrs! Easso'n and Miss Kanwell. A banjo duet was also given by Messrs. Reuben Watts and Everard, a hone sole by Mr. E. Watts, and song by Mr. Twiss,' with violin (Mr. A. Newton),»and banjo (Mr. R. Watts) obligato. Several choruses, led by Mr. Moore, were sung by the men. The conundrum competition was won by sailors from ships in port. A temperance address was delivered by Mr. Moore, which resulted in six pledges being taken. A hearty vote of thanks was accorded the host and hostess by acclamation. This.was responded to by Mr. H. S. Hislop, after which refreshments were disVensed.
