Although the Auckland oyster season does not close by law till October 31, the last lot of oysters has boon picked from the beds and distributed by the .Government depot. The reason for this early termination of the supply is that the Department does not want any oystorr. to be left 011 hand after October 31. There is not a, sack of oysters left nt the depot. The total number of sacks of oysters distributed through the Auckland, Government depot under the first season of State control was 10,982. lionghlv speaking, this represents about 11 million oysters. Approximately the sum of nearly £7000 has been received at the Aueldnnd depot from the sale of oysters at the uniform price of 12s. (id. per ba.g.
