WAIRARAPA. CONTEST. • Ayrshire's 'on top. ' 1 The. results of 'tho Wairarapa butter-fat championship contests are now, announced.; ' The competition is..in _ connection, with the Wairarapa P.' and ,A. Association's, annual show, opening to-inorrow. The'' prizes; offered were £8, £4, £2, and £1, and tho championship trophy, which has to be won thrice before, it becomes the ultimate property of the exhibitor. There' were twenty-fivo entries. The scoring was made up-of one point for every ten,pounds of milk,, and soven points for every one pound of butter-fat. The results were made on eight, milkings, during which' the herd of 25 cows returned 4496J- pounds of milk—an average; yield of within a - point of- 22J pounds, per ■ cow. It is noticeable that the Ayrshire, breed predominated in the five highest co tvs on' the list,' and that the lowest were tliose 'in which no breeding was stated in the catalogue'by their owners. ' , Mr. A. Daysh, the winner, of the third prize,'.contends that his cow is a/Jersey crossbred, not' Shorthorn-Ayrshire, -but other judges do'not hold this opinion.
