Advice has been received that the New Zealand Shipping Company's steamer Ruapehu, en route from London to Wellington, resumed her voyage from Capetown for Hobart on Thursday afternoon. KARAMEA NOT WORKABLE. Messrs. Bannatyne and Co. have received- advice that Karamea is not workable at present, so in consequence tho Defender will return to Hokitika on completing discharge at this port. FOR BUNKER SUPPLIES. Unexpectedly tho tramp steamer Beckenham, 4566 tons, Captain Cra;;gs, en route from Coronet, to Sydney, arrived in the stream on Saturday afternoon. THE ARAWA'S IMPORTS. Advico received "by the local agents states that the Shaw, Savill, and Albion Company's steamer Arawa, bound from London to Wellington, is laden with 5590 tons of cargo for distribution over New Zealand. 'Wellington's portion amounts to 3000 tons. THE KAPITI. At 11 a.m. to-day the Patea Shipping Company's steamer Kapiti, which was beached at Pipitcn Point early on Saturday morning, will bo floated off' and towed to the' Slip. The vessel struck a submerged object while going to Patea last week, and arrived at that port in a leaking condition. Temporary repairs wore effected at Patea, but as the vessel was leaking badly on arrival at Wellington, her captain' deemed it advisable to beach her. PAPAROA, FROM LONDON. Early on Saturday afternoon the New Zeai land Shipping Company's steamer Papartfa, from London, via Capetown and Hobart, arrived in port. She was granted pratique, and by 2.30 p.m. was alongside the Queen's Wharf. Sho left London >.n September 3, and Plymouth two days later. Tenerift'o was reached on September 10, and Capetown on September 27. The following day she took departure, for Hobart, and arrived there on October 19. Throughout the voyage occasional light gales were experienced, but the voyage was described as being decidedly pleasant. Captain Clifford is still in command and has with him the following officers.:—Chief, Mr. C. J. Church, E.N.E.; second, Mr. D. Gordon Stables; third, Mr. J. M. Scott, R.N.R. (late Opawa); fourth, Mr. F. J. Gaulton; fifth,' Mr. G. S. Steddan. Surgeon, Dr. P. Butler. Chief engineer, Mr. Brown, and chief refrigerating engineer, Mr. White. A number of passengers arrived by the vessel, the following being for Wellington First, saloon—Miss M. Hill, Mesdanies 13. A. Hill, R. Bentley, Draper, Keenan, Messrs. W. Hill and Keenan, Masters B. Jackson, and Tompkins. There 'are 28 third-class passengers for Wellington. Captain Bone arrived from Lyttelton yesterday morning hy the Maori. Of fifty-five steerage passengers who arrived from the South yesterday by the Talune, fifty were third-class passengers ex Karainea, from London. The Government training ship Amokura left for the Chatham Islands yesterday' morning. Tho Hinemoa, for the Northern Lighthouses, also got away morning. A Press Association telegram from Auckland , states'that the Chilian training-ship General Barquedano arrived from Sydney at 5 p.m. on Saturday en- route to Talcahuano. The Tyser Line steamer Niwaru from London, via Australian ports, Auckland, and Napier, arrived yesterday morning, and was berthed at tho Taranaki Street Wharf. An exchange reports that a mishap to the barquentine Pplly at Whaiigarei a couple of months back lias put an end to her sailing days. She was dismasted and towed to Auckland, and now it is stated by a northern paper that the Union Company has purchased, the vessel and intends to convert her into a coal hulk. Advices just to hand from London announce a number of important pronations and transfers amongst the commanders of the Shaw, Savill, and Albion Company's fleet. As previously stated,' Captain Moffatt; late of the Mamari, will in future walk the bridge of the new Tainui. Captain Maxwell (says the ' "Otago Daily Times ) relinquishes command of the Matatua, and succeeds Captain Moffatt on the Mamari. Captain Burvil-Holmes transfers from tho Ivaramea. to' the Matattia,. and' Captain Clifton-Mogg, late chief officer of the Arawa, and Who has been standing by the Tainui, has been promoted to the command, of the Matatua pro tem, and on arrival in New Zealand will transfer, to the command, of the ICaramea. Captain Charman, late chief officer- of the. Matatua, has been promoted to the command of tho Rangatira, and Captain Gillman,' late chief officer of tho Arawa. has been promoted to the command of the Pakeha.
