Those booked-for Northern ports, whose names, have .already appeared in these columns, are due to arrive here on Sunday •by the Union Company's steamer" Talune. ■ ■. UNION COMPANY'S STEAMEBS., To-night the Rosamond; is expected to leave Greymouth ' for • Wellington;* • The •■■-Kaituna leaves' Wellington ou' Wednesday'■ for Westport to load coal for the Admiralty at Sydney. The'Mapourika'left; Greymouth at 7 a.m. yesterday, and was to leave 1 Westport at 7 p.m. She is.fixed to sail from Nelson at .9 a.m. to-day,-and should reach here early this evening. To-day the Pukaki'leaves Wellington for Grey- ■ mouth. ■. ' HOLT'S NEW BLUE FUNNEL STEAMEE. • Advices from' London, received in Melbourne, state that a new steamer christened the Gordon, and built to the order of Messrs. Alfred Holt and Co., of Liverpool, was launohcd on August 27 from the yards'of Scott's Shipbuilding and' Engineering Company ,of Greenock. The Gordon, which is . intended for the' Freniantle to Singapore trade, is a vessel of, 2700 tons gross, and her principal dimensions, are: Length, 300 ft.; breadth, .42ft'.;'and depth, 26} ft. • THE*. AMOKUKA. . PROCEEDS TO THE CHATHAMS.' Yesterday afternoon the Government training • ship Amokura returned from her cruise in Cook Strait. The Marine Department have decided to dispatch her to the Chathams, as soon as possible, as smoke has been observed rising from a rock called "Forty Fours," which' lies to the east of .the Chathams. Her latest iixturo will include a call" at'.'th'e.'Kermedac Islands, as some days ago the., steamer Ripple, which arrived at Lyttelton from the Chatham Islands, reported that wreckage had been found there. With so many reports of wreckage being- found, and all of which are put down as belonging to the Loch Lomond, it is to be hoped that the Amokura 1 ? quest- will not be fruitless, and that she .will, return with some authentic tidings of that vessel. ; She will probably leave to-day after taking on banker supplies and stores. A Christchurch Press Association message states that the Amokura. has been instructed to call at the Three' Kings, en route to the Kermadccs. ' ■■ Messrs. Johnston and Co.,' local agents of the Indravelli, report that'she will :leave Lyttelton next Tuesday or Wednesday for Wellington. A smart action on the part of a steamer's captain was reported to tno Dover Board of Guardians. Finding three stowaways on board, the captain, when off Dover, signalled a boat and gave the boatmen 30s. to land them, and gave eaoh stowaway 10s., as they were destitute. .By the expenditure-of. .C3,'the. captain saved delaying his ship for the usual prosecution. The stowaways spent; thoir money and went into the union.
