A young man, a shop assistant, appeared on remand on two charges (1) of stealing fine'safety razor, 12 razor blades, two "towel-rail brackets, 2. electric light extensioiis,'and ono set of .boot brushes, of a total valUo of £2 55., the property of John Duthio and Co.'j' and (2) with stealing nine sovereigns thfe'j; property, of Joseph Swanson Doughty. Accuso'd pleaded guilty to both, charges. ;M'r. ?;Weston, who • appeared for the defence; /.said''-accused was a young man of resp&table' family. The articles mentioned in! the' first charge had been restored, and counsel gave an undertaking that the money would-bo repaid. His .Worship said that as accused was a fiist*offe'nder, and taking : into* consideration what-had been stated by counsel for the defence and the chief detective, the Court would give';hihr, a chance. A strong-loOking man,' AVm. Baker, alias Barker,-.-alias Thomas Arthur, was charged (1.) j:with:'. being deemed' an idle -and dis-orderly,-person • within the meaning of the Police.-. Witness had never known accused do any work. Margaret Keeble, charged with insobriety, was bonvictncl and discharged. Neil M'Lean appeared on two charges of insobriety, on one'of iwhich he was fined 10s., and on tho other'convicted and discharged. Ono first offender/ was fined 10s., 'and two others wore fined os.
