■WEDNESDAY COMPETITIONS. ; The Wednesday . Cricket Association had bad luck witli the opening matches set down for yesterday. Tho players had hardly settled down to their afternoon's enjoyment when the rain, which had been threatening for soma time, came down and necessitated tho postponement of all matches . 1.. . . JUNIOR DIVISION. : Three junior matches were commenced on tho Athletic Park yesterday afternoon. ■ Owing to heavy showers, play had to bo discontinued shortly after three o'clock. The wickets were a trifle on tho soft side; the outfield was in far from good order. Following wero the scores;— DAIRYMEN A v. PETONE. Pctono (first innings).—Donovan (not out), 19; Ballard, b. Hill, 3; J. M'Ewan, b. Hill, 5; W. M'Ewan, b; Cooper, 0; Travers, c. and b. Cooper, 3; Smith, b. Cooper, 0; others absent, —; extras, 3; total, 33. For Dairymen, Cooper took 3 wickets for 14,- an< Hill 2 for 16. Dairymen (first innings).— Edwards, lbw. b. Ballard, 2; Sullivan, b. M'Ewan,' 6; Hill, not out, 1; Morris, not out, 2; total, 2 wickets for 11 runs. RED CROSS t. ARTILLERY. Red Cross (first innings).—O'Brien, h. Porter, 24; Dr. Brown, not out, . 26; Luxford, b. Porter, 5; Groig, run out, 0; three wickets for 55. For Artillery, Porter took 2 wickets for 11 runs. Y.M.C.A. v. VIVIANS. , Y.M.C.A. (first innings).—Cameron, b. Maplesdcn, 5; Kit-to, b. Maplesdcn, 0; M-'lvay, b. Dempsey, 2; Drew, not out, 23; lladfield, not out, 9; Extras, 9; threo for 48. For Vivians, Maplesdcn obtained 2 wickets for 21 runs, and Deinpsey 1 for 6.
