WELLINGTON FIRE POLICE.

His Worship tho Mayor presided at tho annual meeting of the Wellington Fire Police, held in the Mayor's room, Town Hall, last evening. Tho annual report stated that during tho past year the corps received 169 calls to Arcs, nearly tho wholo strength of tho corps being present at tho G.P.O. and Courtenay Place fires. Lieutenant Biggs again holds tho record for attoudanco. Tho year was begun under the Wellington Firo Board, but in March the City Council resumed control, members being re-sworn on tho 23rd of that month; As funds were low, tho annual dinner was abandoned in favour of a social, which was held on May 13, talcing tho form of a send-off to the late superintendent, Mr. Hugo, on his appointment as Chief Firo Inspector.- Tho best feeling has existed throughout tho year between officers and men, and members of tho Firo Brigade and tho committee express their indebtedness to Superintendent O'Brien for his kindly assistance to the corps. In retiring from the secretaryship, Mr. J. Dawson wished to tender his hearty thanks to officers and members for their confidence, courtesy, and assistance at all times extended to him during tho eight years ho had hold offico. The following officers wero elected Captain, Mr. J. Wright; lieutenants, Messrs. T. Ballinger, M. H. Bicgs, J. Doyle, and J. C. Cusnok; secretary, Mr. H. Balcor; treasurer, Mr. F.. Cohen. Tho receipts amounted to £61 Is. lid. (including £23 14s. 9d. carried forward from last year). Tho expenditure amounted to £30 14s. 6d., which leaves a oredit balance of £30 7s. sd. to carry forward. During the ovoning 27 members of the Firo Polico wero sworn in by the Mayor, who took the opportunity to thank them all for their services during tho past year.
