BENEVOLENT TRUSTEES.
The Benevolent Trustees belt} their weekly meeting yesterday afternoon, when thero wero present: the Rev. W. A. Evans (in tho chair), Messrs. F. G. Bolton, H. Cook, and D. Robertson. On tho recommendation of tho finance committee accounts amounting to £500 Bs. lOd. were passed for payment. Tho question of appointing am assistant overseer for tho Ohiro Homo was considered. Applications to tho number of 28 had been reteived, and tho secretary had selected five of these as men whoso qualifications should bo considered. Twelve of the other applicants had not 'given any particulars of previous experience, etc., whon making application.' Mr. Bolton remarked on the fact that there were no local men among those recommended, and the secretary (Mr. Truebridjje) added that when applications wero received previously, thero wero 25, and no local men. Mr. Cook: That shows the prosperity of tho Dominion. Mr. Robortson then moved, and Mr. Cook seconded, that tho five men selected by Mr. Truebridgo be examined by tho board. Mr. Bolton did not think this oourse should bo adopted. Because twelve men had not forwarded testimonials it did not follow that thoy could not produco them. He thought thoy should bo given a chanco of producing references. Also ho did not like the manner in which tho men picked out were all "now chums." Eventually Mr. Robertson withdrew his proposal, and it was rosolved that a special meeting should bo held on Friday to consider tho wholo of the applications. Application* for charitable aid wore then dealt with.
