THE IGNORANCE OF THE THEORIST.

Sir, —May I ask for a..little of your valuable space to call attention to the fact that tbo elcctrical industry suffers a great deal of harm by- the statements made .by persons entirely ignorant of clcctrical 'matters as to tho "fusing" of. wires causing fires? The latost/is Mr. Fitzgerald with 'a "theory.". Wo should really like to liavo this'theory expounded, and to know just why Mr. Fitzgerald would like to put his fire down to electricity—if he was aware of a faulty state of tho conductors, why did ho not call in someone to attend to, them ? , May I state again that under_ the conditions imposed by tho City Counoil and tho firo underwriters' inspect-or, jt is practically impossible to cause a firo by tho "fusing of wires," but if on the other hand Mr. Fitzgerald's electrical knowledge is so deep that he knows more than cither the City Engineer or tho Institute he is clearly wasting his-time in this place as a member ofj Parliament or anything else, and should at onco proceed to America or some-other place whero they undertake tall things iu matters electric. •

Anyhow, since he has roado his "theory" public to our detriment, perhaps ho will como forward and domonstrato how fires are caused by electricity even under the conditions imposed by the City Electrical Engineer and tho fire underwriters' inspector;- I will find him material and opportunity. • ■ My own opinion is that it is a bad,-'excuse; even tho painful,-.chestnut about- the rat-and tho matches is better. Thanking you in anticipation, I am, etc.. CHAS. J. DREWITT. October 19. -1-. : (
