RIOTS IN CAIRO.
TRAMWAY STRIKE. THE MOB CHARGED BY CAVALRY. STRIKER ELECTROCUTED. (by TELEGEAFH—PEESS ASSOCIATION —COrtEIGHT.) Cairo, October 19. The conductors and collectors employed on the Belgian tramway in Cairo 6truck for higher wages. The strikers then prevented European inspectors from running the cars. Cavalry charged tho strikers, and arrested some of their number. During tho 'trouble one of the strikers was electrocuted whilo clinging to a car. ACTS OF LAWLESSNESS. July and August witness a remarkable number of outrages in Cairo. A train on tlio Fajoum line was "held up" and the passengers were robbed; an unsuccessful attempt was made to derail the Upper Egypt express; and a European was wounded by. ,a. stone flung into a railway compartment at night. During the trial for sedition in Cairo of the editor of the native paper "El lewa," a band of ruffians paraded the streets, attacking natives and Europeans. Subsequently a band of ruffians, armed with bludgeons, stopped tramcars, struck the conductors, attacked the passengers, arid wounded and ; robbod a number of them. Women were deprived of their jewels and ornaments, and men of their purses and watches.
