BRITISH CLAIMS. (BY TELFGRATH —PRESS ASSOCIATION —COPYRIGHT.) (Rec. October 20, 11.5 p.m.) London, Octobor 20. The Chancellor of tho Exchequer (Mr. Lloyd-George) states that, up till Saturday, claims for old age pension had been made as follow In England 273,862 In Scotland 49,077 In Wales 13,615 In Ireland 13,160 Total 349,714 Tho Government's first anticipation, was that the" pensions scheme would reach half'a million people. Later the number was put more definitely at 572,000. These figures are much in excess of the total of claims so far made, as given above.
