TRAFALGAR DAY.

STATE SCHOOLS TO CELEBRATE. ENTERTAINMENT AT TOAVN HALL. To-morrow will be-tho hundred ami third anniversary of the Battlo of Trafalgar, the victory achieved by the naval arms of England under Lord Nelson which at that timo mado her mistress of tho seas—if not of the' world. As in recent years, tho day is not to bo allowed to pass unrecognised, nor aro tho proceedings to bo llainbuoyantly hilarious. The arrangements decided on aro embodied in a circular which has been issued to the State schools in Wellington by tho local branch of tho Navy Leaguo. It explains itself: —

"Octobor 17, 1908. "Dear Sir, —Tho Wellington Headmasters' Association has kindly intimated its approval of the proposed celebration of Trafalgar anniversary oil tho 21st inst. (Wednesday) as follows:—

"(1) At a pre-arranged time during tho day, tho scholars to bo assembled at their respectivo schools and short addresses to bo mado by the headmaster, and, if practicable, by a member (or mombers) of tho school committee, having reference to tho great naval victory as alFecting tho heritage of sea-power hajidotl down to us by our forefathers, and which is so essential to our security, our national existence, and the peace of tho world. Reference also to bo mado to tho many privileges and advantages pertaining to British citizenship and tho dire results likely to ari.se should tho people of the nation become apathetic and indifferent to t-heir naval requirements. "(2) Tho school flag to bo hoisted and saluted.

"(3) Patriotic songs to be sung. "In tho evening a naval lantern entertainment is to be held at tho Municipal Concert Hall, and school members wearing Navy League medals aro to be admitted, free. A limited if urn her of tickets for nonmembers and parents aro available at 6d. each. Should any of your recently-joined mombers be without medals, tho latter could bo obtained at tho Chamber of Commerce upon receipt of a message from yourself. "During tho evening Navy League prizes for the year are to be presented; and in this connection would you kindly ask tho prize-winners at your school to report themselves to mo on Wednesday- at 7.-Jo p.m at tho front right-hand side 'of the hall ' Any prize-winner unable' to attend might appoint a deputy. Supervision of tho juveniles is being projided by tho League, but with a view to further securing order, tho presence of yoursolf.or■ ono of your staff (i.e.. if at all convenient) would be appreciated.
