PROSPECT OF INDUSTRIAL STRUGGLE,
UNION'S ATTITUDE,' , TROUBLE OVER A CONFERENCE. (BY TELEQUAPH" —ritESS ASSOCIATION —COPTBIGET.I Sydney, October 19. The outlook at the Barrier mines is grave. At a meeting yesterday of delegates from tho combined unions aYtd tho Mine' Managers' Association, it was decided not to go back on tho promise to meet tho nonpolitical unions in conference to-morrow.
Tho managers explained tliat the meeting was only to discuss tho ! situation. The union delegates, however, refused to budge from the position tho unions had taken, -up, namely, not to allow, tho managers, under threat of a strike, to meet tho non-political unions. A ballot of the combined unions, completed late last night, resulted in 354 voting for and 430 against a strike. CRISIS AVERTED. A CONFERENCE'ABANDONED. ..... (Rec.
