MURDER BY BURGLAR
A YOUTH SHOT.
BANK EMPLOYEE'S SAD DEATH. FIVE WOUNDS. |bY TELMEArE— rRKSS' ASSOCI4TION—COr.YUIQET.) (Roo. October 20, 0.20 a.m.) Brisbane, October 19. J. Muir, a junior clerk in tho of tho Commercial Banking Company of Sydney, aud stationed at tho company's branch at Gayndah (a small township 200 miles north-west of Brisbane), was found shot dead in tho back of tho Gayndah premises last nisht.
A railway porter, who ' was passing tho bank, heard the sound of breaking glass, and summoned the polico, who discovered Muir's body on tho floor.
There wcro indications that burglars had tampered with and failed to open the safes of the bank, which is a small wooden building.
Muir, a youth aged eighteen years, only recently wont to Gayndah.
DETAILS OF THE CRIME.
DISAPPEARANCE OF A SUSPECT. (Rec. October 20, 1.5 a.m.) Brisbane, October 19. The manager of the bank was temporarily absent, and Muir took his place and was sleeping in the bank. Muir had left his boardinghouse to go to the bank a few minutes before tho shots were heard. It is believed that the burglar was hidden in tho hank, and shot Muir as he was entering his bedroom.
■ A strange hat and a broken lamp were lying near the body, which bore four revolver wounds, and a fifth ' through the hand.
A man who is suspected of the crime has disappeared.
