THE TURF. [By Glkncoe.] RACINC FIXTURES. October 21 and 24. —Wellington R.C. Spring. October 29 and 30. —Masterton R.C. Spring. November 7, 9, 11, and 14.—Canterbury J.C. Spring. November 9.—Wavcrlcy-Waitotara R.C, Annual. November 9 and 10.—Taratahi-Carterton R.C. Annual. November 19 and 20. —Marlborough R.C. Spring. November 25 and 26.—South Canterbury J.C. Spring. November 30 and December 1, —Foilding J.C. Spring. December 26, 30, January 1 and 2.—Auckland lt.C. Summer. NOTES AND COMMENTS. Tho Wellington Racing Club's spring meeting commences at Trentham to-morrow. Special trains will leave To Aro and Thorndon for the racecourso at intervals during tho day. Latest scratohings in connection with tho fixture are Gold Dust and Showman for all engagements. Sir Geo. Clifford's Fasnakylc and Mr. J. Monk's Masterful have been withdrawn from the Wellcsley Stakes, and Tetrazzini is mentioned as ail unlikely starter for tho same event. Some little while back, Mr. D. O'Brien, owner of Maranui. coupled that horse with Ariki for tho Cauilield and Melbourne Cups to win £5000. R. Hatch has been engaged to ride Mon Ami in the Stewards' Handicap at Riccarton. Tho Trentham light-weight has refused several other mounts in tho race since Mr. R. W. Paterson secured liira. Tho Featherston trainer, J. Ayers, will probably tako up his residence at Trentham. Nominations for tho Taratahi-Carterton Racing Club's meeting are due on Friday next. Acceptances for tho first day's events at the Masterton Racing Club's meeting also close on Friday. Tho New Zealand Cup candidate, Master Delaval, appears to have taken a new lease of life. There is 110 doubt about his ability to stay, and that he does not lack brilliancy is evidenced by tho fact that ho is a good match for Master Soult on tho tracks. L. Wadham, who was riding at the pony meoting on Saturday, was on the'back of three winners during the afternoon. There appears to be very little probability of Moral making the journey to Riccarton for tho Cup meeting. It is understood he will be sent to Ellerslie. Sa<p is engaged at the Oamaru meeting on Thursday. She will remain in the South until after the Canterbury Jockey Club's meoting. With the exception of San Julie and Silken Rein, all the candidates engaged in tho Wellington Handicap to-morrow, wero on the tracks at Trentham yesterday morning. A fine, mild morning at Trentham yesterday was favourable to training operations, which commenced shortly after daybreak. The outside of the courso proper was thrown open for fast work, and as tho going was very fair somo good times wero recorded. H. Cutts was on tho scene early, and Goldbeater, Applegarth, and Somersault were given useful tasks. S. Waddell worked Xylophone, Zimmerman, and a couple of others, Zimmerman has not done well since his arrival here, and may not run up to his best form in the Wellington Handicap, but he is commencing to wear a racy appearance, and should 1)0 very fit by the time New Zealand Cup day rolls round. Provided he is wound tip. thore appears to bo no roßson why he should not carry his 9st. 91b. just as easily as a smaller horse like Master Delaval wilj carry Bst. 131b., but just how ho will shapo ngaiust horses like Probable in the lightweight division is another question,, , . rr J. Farmer is only giving Provocation easy ! work at present, but yesterday morning Expansion was associated with Elysian in a gallop over three furlongs—a distance that was, covered by the pair in 39isec. Sir Frisco and Iranui galloped seven furlongs, but the mare was of no use to Sir Frisco, who covered tho distance in lmin. 31sec. Axito ; from tho same stable,: was hitting out nicely in a sprint. Gold Crest and Taitoko were started off at the mile post together, but after going four furlongs Wilson had to ease Taitoko, as tho saddlo had slipped, Gold Crest finished strongly, the last seven furlongs . takiug lmin. 31sec. Diabolo traversed a mile, alone, the last four furlongs being covered in 52see. Swimming Belt trotted- round three times. Oho two-year-olds from tho same stable were given short sprints. Master Delaval and Master Sonlt were companions in a- spin over six furlongs, run ■in lmin 18sec. Tho Cup candidate showed to most advantage, Ono of tho best gallops of the morning was that accomplished by California, who has 9st. 71b. in tho Wellington Handicap, and Sandstream, who has only 6st. 101b., in tho same event. _ Both raced together from the start and finished abreast, the last seven furlongs taking a shade less than tho time registered by Sir Frisco. Sandstroam, who has been racing well in the hack division lately, is in great heart. Tiptoe was not fully extended over lialf-a-mile run in 52sec. T. Wilson's pair, Sir Single and Toanga, shapod pleasingly in a hall-mile sprint. Glenullin did a short gallop, and Uhlando did trotting exercise. The latter is in nice forward condition, and looks much tho, same as he did before he won the i Wanganui Cup. He should be quito ready 1 for his New Zealand Cup engagement next month. Tho hurdler, Master Douglas, traversed a mile on tho flat in lmin. 53sec. Gleam went twice round at half-pace, pulling hard the whole way. Mahoo was given a light task only. Waimaria was sent twice round, jumping four hurdles on the way. She cleared the obstacles fairly well, but was distressed at the completion of tho gallop. Grenadier, Gipsy Bello, Exmoor, Bracken, I Jolly Roger, Mallet, San Fernando, Ballarat, 1 Ukraine, and a number of others did useful ( work. C. Jenkins arrived in Wellington yester- J day morning and wont on to Trentham. He ' is still suffering with an injured ankle, but a will bo able to fulfil his engagements at the (; meeting. Geo. Price arrived from Wauga- ; nui by the mail train last night, and proceedea to tho racecourse by tho last train. f Duart, Lyrist, Silken llcin, and several t other horses arrived at Trentham yesterday t afternoon. ' I Our Palmerston correspondent states that Rangipapa, Mr. D. Buick's sprinter, has de- d veloped strangles. The colt was operated I 1 upon yestorday, and will not fulfil his en- '' jagement for the Stewards' Handicap at the 5.J.C. meeting. His stable mate, Tangi- 0 noana, loaves for Christchurch to-day to -* 1 'ulfil her New Zealand Cup engagement. P FLEMINCTON TRAINING NOTES. Nt TEI.EGIt A I'll —I'ItKSS ASSOCIATION —Co I'Y It I OUT.)
