SUNNY PROSPECTS. ■ Saturday and Sunday (says our Christchurch correspondent) were particularly fine sunny days. In the shado the thermometer reached 66 degrees on Saturday, and 69 de-. gre'Ps on Sunday. " Canterbury in- her best; spring • attire" fitly describes the agricultural districts at tho present moment.- Now is the timo when excursions into the country give the correct view of the surprising fertility of the 'land in the province. On all hands there is a wealth of grass for the flocks and herds; and crops of wheat, oats, and barley cover the broad acres with a mantle of greenness and freshness, inspiring sanguine hopes for the future harvest. The indications regarding the grain yields and tho dairy returns wero never more' promising. The fields display a deep, healthy green Colour, pointing to an absence of blight and a good supply of root moisture that will carry them well into the hot season if tho province experiences another dry spell. Sheep and lambs aro in: most, forward: condition, and some of tho, farmers have begun shearing.
