RUNNING IN AMERICA.
# : — , (BT TELEGBA PIT —PRESS ASSOCIATION.) Christchuroh, October 16. Mr. Guy Haskins, son of Mr. F. T. Haskins, returned to Christchurch yesterday after a residence of five years and a half in Pennsylvania, where ho studied dentistry at Pennsylvania University. Questioned regarding the arrangements at "indoor meetings" in tho United States, he said that tho men usually ran on a flat, boarded floor; the track running eight or ten laps to the mile, but in some cases tho tracks were banked at tho corners after the manner of a cyclingtrack, mating it easier for the runners; Amongst , the most popular forms of running at present in vogue wore relay racing and match racing. At one of his matches with. Sheppa.rd there was an attendance of 12,000 people.. One meeting was, annually devoted to relay racing, some 1200 competitors, ranging from primary schoolboys to collegiate representatives, taking part. Asked whether he intended to run in New Zealand, Mr. Haskins said that he was going to go in for a littlo constitutional running at' some city track, perhaps Lancaster Park, and if any'amateur running events happened during his stay in Christchurch he would | certainly compete. At present the duration of his' stay in Christchurch had not been decided upon.
