ADMINISTRATION OF THE AGRICULTURAL DEPARTMENT.
CIRCULAR 333. (To tub Editor.) 0 Sir, —Your remarks concerning the control j of experiments at State farms by laymen f. need a good deal moro replying to than r the "N.Z. Times" can manage. As regards 0 tho circular 333, howover, I send you cuttings from "The Gisborne Times" and the „ "Otago Daily Times" showing that early in 1907 both those journals, published this notoq rious circular. You will note that in refer- _ once to it tho "Gisborne Times" flatly ac--0 cured tho Minister for Agriculture of det liberately hood-winking the public, and so far as I .know tho Minister has never rcj plied to that charge, no doubt because he „ was very busy just then renailing his "lease- _ hold land" flag, if only half-mast high! Perhaps a republication of the circular ' would remind .the Minister that the charge t made against him by the "Gisborne Times" j has never been met. —I am, etc., f A CORRESPONDENT. 1 [It will perhaps be sufficient if we quote 3 one paragraph of the circular bearing directly on the point in question. It is as s follows: —"In connection with special work (such as horticultural, viticultural, poultry, or cliemica.l) at the experimental farms, ' nurseries, fruit-testing stations, poultry stations, etc., tho expert officers will occupy the position of advisers, and not that of direc- . tors of operations. Their status on Govern--5 ment farms, etc., will be precisely the same as on private property."—Ed.].
