Tho Union Company's steamer Tofua, which lias arrived from Samoa) reports that when she picked up tho Union Company's steamer Whangapo (which recently broke her tail-shaft in Fiji waters), the - Whangapo was absolutely helpless. At her rate of drift, five knots an hour, she would have run on the reef in sis- hours. After the failure of the attempts to fix the tail-shaft; sails wore used, but owing to thoir limited area they could not keep tho steamer to tho wind.
