Dorando and Hayes are the great rivals of the 1908 Marathon race at the Olympic games, tho course of which was from 'Windsor Castle to the Stadium at Shepherd's Bush, a distance of 26 miles 385 yards The Italian Dorando, who came in first, was disqualified because in the last few yards he was assisted. Dorando's time was 2hr. 54min. 4G. 2-ssec. for the 26 miles 385 yards—nine an hour, or 6 2-3 min. per' mile. The time put up by the American Hayes, who was placed first, was 2hr. 55min. 18sec., 31 8-ssec. more. Neither is a record for the distance.
