Excellent weather-favoured the pony races at Miramar on Saturday, and despite counter attractions there was a fairly largo attendance: The racing passed off satisfactorily, Dome of the ovents providing interesting contests;/-; Miretta, who won the principal event at/the last meeting, carried off the Spring Cup,'for which sho started a slightly better •favourite than tho second horse, Yeroniquo. Prior,.to the: running of tho Wonderland Handicap, the ./hotting market fluctuated \in a manner which suggested that all was not ■ right; with the,..runners. ■ Tho - managing steward, however, was evidently, alive to tho . situation, and the race resulted in a manner which'elicited a. good deal of applause from the public. There wero two minor accidents during the afternoon. Dorina fell and Sequestrator carried his rider on,to tho rails, but neither of the jockeys was seriously injured. Tho rider ofrKauhoe collapsed at the conclusion of the fifth race, but made a satisfactory recovery in about ten minutes' time. About a dozen., bookmakers did business on tho course, the results being somewhat iri their favour. Details of the racing are as follow :— . Beautiful weather prevailed. lor the second day of the Wanganui Jockcy Club's Spring meeting, and there. was another largo attendance. The amount put througn the totalisator was £11,207, making a total of £18,311 for tho meeting, as against £17,755 for tho spring meeting last year. Bookmakers' fees amounted to £681. Gleam then sot. sail after Exmoor and passed him two furlongs from homo, and led over tho last hurdle, but in the run home Exmoor camo again and just won on the post by a noseShowman was a long way behind. Tan San made an effort two furlongs from home, and ran into third place. All Red led into the straight, with Tan San and Glonullin close up, and King Billy fourth. ComiiiK down the straight, Tan San mado a big effort to get up, but All Red managed to hold his own, and, lidden right out, won by half a length. GlenuUin was two lengths away third. (Br TEI.KG It A Til—ntESS ASSOCIATION—COPrRtCUT.) ,• i London, September 25. Frank Wootton,.the ex-Australian jockey, has refused an offer of a retaining fee of £2000 to ride in France during 1909. Wootton's excellent riding this season has elicited high piaise from all the Hanto papers. Referring to ono of. his finishes at the Lewes meeting last month one writer said: —A more brilliant effort •on the part of any jockey has not been seen for many a day, arid there is no other boy of Wcotton's weight, riding at present, who would-havo had'the pbysbal power to accomplish it.
