We notice (says "Science Siftings") in a report; from Washington that in ono year twenty' thousand cattle, twelvo thousand sheep/ four thousand calvcs, and ninoty-one thousand 'nftgs, besides an ,ainount-of parts of such animals (unoilnting in bulk to probably as much again rn. mcat, were discarded and .condemned in the; United. States for some' forty-fivo different diseases, including consumption, cholera, Texas fever, erysipelas, cancer,'gangrene, trichinae. While wo.do not think the English purveyor is so bad as his brothers across the sea, thore is undoubtedly'much of tbc'- ; same tiling going on iri this country, and it is dreadful to think- that human beings, thanks to competition, commercial indifference, or heartless cupidity, have to eat tho bodies of diseased animals. Is it a Wonder that diseases are increasing; that many perish from bloodpoisoning engendered by it ? A man is what he eats, for blood is made from his; food. ' If it wore riot for the white' corpuscles of tho blood the pus-oells from decayed animal matter would invariably produce typhoid and other-fevers. ■
