NOTES AND COMMENTS.
The Wanganui Jockey.Club's meeting will bo concluded to-day. . Axite, a member of J. Lowe's Trentham " team,'i.was railed to Wanganui yesterday.' . morning in chargo of W. Ryan, who will ride the Mauser gelding in the Railway Hack Handicap this afternoon. ' C. Jenkins will ride Rangipapa at Wanganui •. to-day. Mr. Buick's colt was rather unluoky in the Flying Handicap on Wednesday, as lie did not begin at all well. , Splendid Idea is to be sent to Waikanao on; Tuesday on a visit to Kilcheran. The. owner of Moral missed , tho nominations for the Canterbury i Jockey Club's ovb'nts which closed last Friday,' but it is understood that, Morjl js a sure starter in New Zealand Cup, and Will'probably be nominated for the Otaio Plato and Fcndaltpn Handicap. : Secretaries : Angus Keith (Foxton Racing Club), E. Gpqdbehere.(Feilding Jockey Club), and,J, Emmerson (Waverley-Wajtotara Racing Club), were present at tho Wanganui Jockey s Club's meeting on Thursday. ■ The Daunt filly Litikless has been purchased by Mr. T. Baxter for 100 guineas, and will probably be taken to Australia in the autuinh. Linkle-ss .is fairly smart over five furlongs, , and it. will be remembered that last; season she defeated Lord Soult at Bulls, arid: later on provailed over Finery at Napier Park in five-furlong races. ( tady ;Btockwell (The Officer—'l'emeraire) goes to: the stfld find is to_be mated with the imported sire Sir Ladtjo (Sir Hugo—Golden Moments). Temeraire hail a cptifjjo of filly foals," but I thilik Lady Stookwell is the only one; that is now 'in tho Dominion, a fact which : probably influenced her owner whon he recently refused a bands'pino prico for tho half-sister to Audax. Crucinelja,. who had such a runaway victory in the milo hack race at Wanganui oil Thursday, will try her speed in a six furlong'race to-day. The half-sisler to Nonette will'agaiu be ridden by R, Hatch. Harry Cutts, .with Inchbonny and Husbandman, Jeft, Wanganui for Christchurch yesterday, Husbaridman will not make ;tho trip' to fiastitigs, and as Flcotfoot's brother IJroadsword, fto was engaged ili the, Hastings Stakes, recently met with an accident, it is"_ possible that Sir George Clifford will bo without a representative at the Hawke's • Bay Jockey Club's Spring.meeting. All Red will be a starter in tho big handicap: at Waijgapui to-day. Speaking: by the book, All Red is a badly-treated liotso, as bo has only once won over a distaljco. Still tho, son,of Sfcepniak is a big, p'oworful liorso that should bo equal to carrying any weight, and added to that, ho will be stewed by C. Jenkins.
None of the Karamu hordes accepted for the second day's event? at Wanganui. They wero sent home. yosterday, Conquestina looked as if elig had gone through a very solid preparation prior to the 'Wanganui meeting. She looked lighter than any other horso seen out oil Thursday. Gleam is not built on weight-carrying lines, and that is probably tho sole reason of her defeat by Tonderghio in the hack hurdles on Thursday. Gleam is a very fair jumper and has abundant pace, and would always give a good account of herself when at' tho foot of tho handicap, but she does not. strike me as n maro that will ever win a ' fiiirdle race with list, or more in tho saddle. • ' The .Palmerston-trained mares Advantage and Trtiganini were railed through to Wanganui by the goods train last evening. Tho former looks a perfect picture, but Triiganini is big and flabby, and pbviously not ready. Tho owners or both horses journeyed to Awapuni on Wednosday last, and. witnessed a gallop over five furlongs. It can be takon for granted that it was a satisfactory trial as both "Mr. Broadbent" and "Mr. Melrose" .will bo 'present at Wcnganui this afternoon. Taitoko, who put up such a sterling performanco in the Spring Handicap on 'lhurs.day, was not worked yesterday morning, though ho was present on the track. This occasioned much surprise, but Pressor informed me that tho horse was as fit as ho could ho got, and that, ho wanted him to bo fresh'for his too to-day. Tho crack-horso-nuvn, C. Jctikins, was hard at work on the rands yosterday trying to reduce his weight. Ho is to rido tho Stepniak horso even if ho ins to rido a few .pounds dverwoight. •
The St.- Clements gelding Climax was making his initial appearance in a hurdle race whon he took 011 Exmoor on Thursday. Ho kept tho Porirua horoe company for a mile, and jumped exceedingly well, but after that ho tired and-finished badly. It was a bad move to get up against a horse like Exmoor hi a maiden effort over tho sticks, but had -the chestnut been entered for tho Hack Hurdles ho could not l(ave lost.
