WRECKED.
STORMS IN ENGLISH CHANNEL. EXCITING RESdUES. EXCURSION STEAMER ON A SANDBANK. (bt telegram—mess association copyright.) London, September 3. On account of storms in the Channel there have been many wrecks, and exciting rescues. The excursion steamer Queen, with 160 passengers, broko her steering gear, and grounded on a sandbank at Solsey Bjll on the Sussex coast. Seas were sweeping tho decks, and lifebelts were served out to eight women and three children, who wero thrown into tho lifeboatmen's arms. This was at midnight, 'i'ho men passengers were rescued in tho morning. ■ SAILINC VESSEL WRECKED. TWENTY MEN DROWNED. London, September 3. The sailing vessel Amazon, laden with coal, was wrecked in Swansea Bay on the coast of Wales. Twenty out of a crew of twenty-eight were drowned. The drowning men made desperate struggles to save themselves, their efforts being watched by thousands, of people ashore, who wero unablo to render help. A YACHT CAPSIZES. SEVEN LIVES LOST. , Now York, September 3. A yacht capsized in a squall in Penobscot Bay, Maine, U.S.A. Six women and one man were drowned.
