' ' -Mr. Crabb, who acted as spokesman, placed before tho Minister tho case for the league, and presented tho statistics collected from farmers. In replying the Minister spoko in a strain distinctly sympathetic to tho claims of the deputation. Ha admitted that tho balance of population was coming, to the North Island, which gave the latter claims ahead of the South Island, and in that conncction Mr. Crabb and tho settlers had made out a good slaim for an extension of the railway service to Kimholton and Apiti. Next year would be a more convenient timo to consider this and other claims, as somo four or five works now in ; hand would ■bo completed. However, ho promised to give the matter full representation before the Cabinet, when the various claims already made for authorities were presented. Tho Minister informed the deputation that ho had not dropped tho idea of paying a visit to their district.
