The steamer Duncan, from KaratßU (a coal-mining centre of Japan) to Singapore, capsizod in a typhoon off the Coto Islands. Only the third mate and an engineer were saved out of a crow of thirteen whites and forty-one Lascars. COLLISIONS. TWO BAD BUMPS OFF SYDNEY HEADS. COLAC MUCH DAMAGED. Sydney, August 29. At an early hour this morning a collision ocourred at the Heads between the iron Borew steamer Colac (1480 tons gross, built in 1884) and tho steel collier Pareora (650 tons gross, .built in 1896). Tho Colac was entering and the oollier. was outward bound. A huge hole was torn in the Colao's port bow. Her bulkhead saved her from foundering. A fireman , had a . narrow escape of being crushed to death in his bunk.'

Both vessels returned to port. Tho extent of the damage to the collier is unknown. HERO AND.SUVA. Sydney, August 29. ■ The tug Hero . (161 tons), which was crippled through collision with the A.U.S.N. Company's steamer Suva • (2229 tons), was "towed to the Heaths by the .Union Company's Steamer Karori. The tow-line then broke, and a tug got 'hold of the Hero and brought her to port. ,
