Mrs. and Miss Medley are stftying at Picton. for a- short time.. Miss Flora Brandon and Miss Deans, who wero in London,when tho last English mail loft,- wore intending to leave in September for the Continent.. Mrs. Tuson loft yesterday morning for Napier, taking her children with her. Miss Boughton, who left for England last February intending to spend several years in the Old Country, was unablo to stand the climato, and returned to New ■ Zealand by tho Tongariro, which arrived here this week. Yesterday afternoon the Misses Erica and Margaret Fell entertained a number of tho Victoria Collego students at a very pleasant afternoon tea. Tho tea-tablo was dccoratcd with yellow daffodills, and tho drawingroom with other spring flowers. Various odd, iUnlikeljr objects wero placed about tho room, tho ?übjects of a competition which caused much puzzled thought. Miss Cox was the winner of tho competition, with Miss Butler second. During the. nftorncon songs were given by Miss Erica Fell, Miss May Newman, and Miss Daisy Isaacs. Tho young hostesses wore pretty blouses of- whito. net, trimmed witli'narrow black velvet ribbon, and black velvet skirts. Among tho guests present .wero,tho Misses Newman, Skinner, Gibbs (2), Dallaston, Thornton, D.- Bulkley, 'Winder, Hursthouse, Gibb', Isaacs, Butler, and Cox. ' Miss Partridge, who. went up to Auckland beforoithe Fleet Week celobrations, returned to Wellington on Wednesday, Mrs./Sprott is giving a tea next week in honour- of Mr. and Mrs. Mallinson, who are to arnvo .in Wellington on Monday. .A of' ladies, among whom are Do la Mere, and Beere, and the Misses Kcbbell,. Oram, Shano, Schwartz, and' Kirk, have issued invitations for a dance to ba given iii tho Sydney Street School on Wednesday,\ September 9. ■ Miss Beetham, of "Masterton, is staying with Mrs. Q. Hanmor at Christchurch, Miss Harding, of Palmerston North, is staying at?, the Hotel.
