NUMBER OF DESERTERS. (Rec.- August 28, lis a.m.) Sydney, August 27. Several thousand persons*, witnessed the departure of the fleet. It presented an imposing spectacle as it passed, in close single file formation up the- harbour, and through the heads. Pilots were engaged to bring the fleet', into tho 1 harbour, but their services were dispensed with in leaving.! About 300 sailors their leave, and were left behind. Up to to-night most of the stragglers had turned up, and had been placed aboard the transport Yankton to be taken on to Melbourne. Al. number of the others have expressed their intention of going overland to Melbourne, and seeing some fun thero before rejoining their ships ■and taking their gruel. I
