HARBOUR BOARD STAFF.
INCREASES OF SALARIES. At yesterday's meeting of the WellingtonHarbour Board, the recommendations of a' sub-committee appointed to consider petitions from tho staff for increases of salaries were adopted. The chairman (Mr. T. M.. Wilford) said that the board had granted £1374 in increases of salaries, but since then various petitions had been received from other members of tho staff, and it was proposed to 'grant further increases amounting to £752 i ss.'-:4d. Mr. R. Flotchcr remarked that : although there wero one or two instances in which certain cases might havo been treated a littlo better, he was generally pleased that tho .employees had been treated so well, and ho i was sure they would _ appreciate tho conces'sions they had received. Tho report wa3 adopted. , The .following are some of the principal increases: Three assistant wharfingers, one at £300 per annum, and two at £250, benefit itoitho extent of £25 each per annum; two labour foremen, ono at 14s. per day at present, and tho other'at 165., are. to bo advanced by Is. per.?day V tho senior clerk :of works at £5 per week is to recoivo £5 10s.; ■tho superintending, engineer of the dredge Whakarire, who gets £360 , per annum at present,"is to:liavo increases of £10 annually until £400 is reached; the chief mechanic, at £300: a year, will recoivo a £20 por annum; other officers receive increases varying from' 2d. -to Is.: per .day,: while the labour foreman's assistant, tho wharf clerical _gtalf, flud P6ay.o»S«Bj remain as atnpresent<.
