e ■ four shops destroyed. (By TELEGRAPH—I>KI!SS ASSOCIATION.) Timaru, August 24. Another destructive iiro occurred at Teinuka at 2.15 o'clock yesterday morning, when four shops wero destroyed. Three belonged to Dr. Hayos; the other one to Mr. T. Edwards. All woro wooden buildings. ■ The iiro ran through them very quickly. Tho origin of tho firo is a mystery. Dr. Ilayos is a heavy losor. Ho had only £50 insurance on each of • his tlirco shops, with tho Norwich Union Company. Mr. Edwards is also ii heavy loscf. His shop was insured for £200 in tho Manchester Office. The tenants also aro all losers by tho fire, their insurances boing:—W. H. Carl (chemist), £400 in tho Phoenix; Jacobs (fancy goods), £200 in the Standard; C. Vincent i (saddler), £100 in the South British; A. Prosser (bootmaker), £400 in the Stato Office. Tho loss of the tenants is estimated at £650 in ■ tho aggregato. During tho past eighteen months thirteen business places luivo been destroyed by fire in Temuka. ENGINE SHED GUTTED. Auckland, August 24. A fire occurred in tho engine-shod at Onehunga railway station on Sunday morning. . The ilames were bursting through the roof, but one engine had enough steam on to permit it being driven out with a second engine in tow, botli escaping with very slight damage, though tho engine-shed was gutted.
