HOCKEY TOURNAMENT.
1 On September 3 Wellington is to bo in- ' vaded by a host of hockey girls, tho members of more or less distant teams, who are coming to take part in the tournament which is to bo played in Wellington from September 4to September.l 2. It is not yet known exactly how many will be here, but it is expected,'that' there will be at least 130 visitors, the members of nine teams. Only those clubs whose entry has been authorised by tho Association controlling hockey in the district are allowed to take part;. individual teams may riot enter, and therefore some firstclass clubs, such as the Kia Toa and the Huia, will not be represented. Tho senior, clubs sending teams are the Hawke's Bay, Wairarapa, Nelson, Christchurch, and Otago, and the junior aro the Otaki, Wairarapa, Napier, and Wanganui Clubs. It has not yet been decided where the matches are to be played, but negotiations for various grounds are.now under way. The committee to arrange all matters connected with the 'tournament will meet at Dr. Izard's house on Thursday evening,-when final arrangements will be'made. On September 7 there is to be a conference of delegates from all tho Ladies' Hockey Associations in New Zealand, when it is hoped that a New Zealand Ladies'. Hockey Association will be formed which can make uniform rules for all clubs represented and'settle various minor points on which there is now a difference of opinion.
With 130 visiting players and 340 members of local hockey clubs the town should for a week be worked up to a great degres of interest in the game, and some very good matches may be looked, forward to.. It is probable that the committee will arrange for a dance in'honour'of the visiting teams, and Dr. Izard, president of tho Wellington Association, lias announced his intention of entertaining members of all tho teams at an afternoon reception.' •• < Tho members of tho. Wellington Hockey Association who are responsible for the billetting of these girls in various homes are busily employed, for though naturally all the Wellington players would wish to offer hospitality to their. rivals, they will not all bo ablo to do so, and the help of other ladies has been enlisted in this matter. Those who wish to have the privilege of entertaining one or more of these visitors are asked to communicate with Miss M'Kellar, of . Victoria College.
