Ifc being alleged that there were scores in Gisborno' out of work, the East Coast Trades and Labour Council, after discussion, passed the following motion:— "That the East Coast Trades and Labour Council takes exception to the Labour Department'importing labour to this district, whilo there are several local unemployed unab'sorbed." Tho Secretary was instructed to send copies of the resolution to the Minister for Labour and tho : Secretary for Labour. A "Times" representative made inquiries to-day; at the Labour Bureau and ascertained that in the last fourteen days there have been 54, names registeroi, of whom 24 have been found employment on Government works, and seven have been sent to privato employers; the remainder being single men with no pressing necessity for work.' Of the, contingent which arrived by the Wimmera_ on Saturday, only seven have, so for put in an appearance at the Railway Construction Works.. WORKERS'DWELLINGS. ! ' Christohurch, August 10. ' Representatives of the Labour.; and Land Departments to-day inspected an area of four acres of land on the Mandoville Road near the Addington Workshops," required by the Government for tho purpose of erecting workers' dwellings thereon. 'The area will afford space for about 18 cottages, and recommendations to Parliament will probably be made as a result of tho visit of tho officials referred to.
