; The following aro tho details of tho Shakespeare Society's compotitiori for pupils of tho primary schools:—(1) Ono boy and ono girl 'to compote from each school. (2) Tho tests to consist of a prepared reading arid a read l ' 'ing at'sight,- both from Shakespeare!s plays. (3) Two, prizes. to' bo- given, olio to the best ,boy reaider, tho other to the host girl reader; .(4) Tho prizes' to be of-the vahio of £1 Is. each in books. In addition to th'o prizes of books Miss Hardinge-Maltby ;has again kindly offered to gii'o a term's frco tuition in elocution to th'o hoy : or 'girl obtaining tlio highest number of marks. (5) Tho selections, mado by tho Committee, as the prepared reading tests are:—For boys: Merchant of .Venice, Act I, Scerio 3. Shylock's speech, commencing "Signer. Antonio,' many a timo and oft." For girls: Merchant of Venice', Act 5, Scono 1. Jessica's, Speech, "I am never morry when I hear fewedt music," followed by Lorenzo's speech down to "Lot no such mari bo trusted." ' i. In tho competition for pupils of secondary schools, tlio details are. as,follow; —(1) Tho competition' will bo held on Saturday, September 26. (2) Ono boy and ono girl, from each school.
